Utilitywise promises 200 South Shields jobs

An energy consultancy firm is to double its workforce to almost 400 workers after moving to new premises in South Shields.

Utilitywise has moved its 190-strong workforce from Jarrow into a five-storey building in Market Dock.

The firm, which helps businesses manage electricity, gas and water costs, is now promising to create 200 more jobs to cope with growing demand.

Managing director Adam Thompson said it had "big expansion plans for 2012".

"Energy costs are one of the major pressures businesses of all shapes and sizes face.

"While securing the best rate is important, the biggest savings in energy costs come from reducing consumption and that is where we are able to support businesses, which is good news for them and for the environment," he said.
