Robbery charge over South Shields assault

A 21-year-old has been charged with robbery after a man suffered a broken jaw in a street attack.

Northumbria Police said the 25-year-old victim was in King Street, South Shields, in the early hours of Saturday when he was chased by another man.

The victim ran to Ferry Street where he was attacked and had a small amount of cash taken, police said.

The 21-year-old man is in custody and will appear at South Shields Magistrates' Court on Monday.
