Victorian child 'villains' bring Newcastle app to life

Snaps of Victorian child "villains" locked up for stealing in the 1870s have been used in a new app to bring the history of Newcastle alive.

The mugshots, from the Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, were taken between 1871 and 1873

These photos are from the collections of Tyne & Wear Archives. All the prisoners photographed here spent time in Newcastle Gaol between December 1871 - December 1873. Newcastle Gaol in Carliol Square closed on 31st March 1925.
