Man injured in suspected gas explosion in Newcastle

A man has been injured in what is believed to be a gas explosion at a bungalow in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to the property in Huntcliffe Gardens in the Heaton area at 14:15 BST.

The roof had been blown off and its 65-year-old occupant was taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A neighbouring property was evacuated for safety reasons and the road will remain closed until further notice.
