Arrest after Josef Craig's gold postbox is vandalised

A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a postbox on South Tyneside which was painted gold in honour of Paralympian Josef Craig was vandalised.

On Wednesday morning police received a report of a number of objects being targeted around the Market Walk area of Jarrow.

A car, a gas box and the gold postbox were vandalised. The postbox on Grange Road, was painted gold on Saturday.

The man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

He is currently in police custody.

The 15-year-old swimmer Craig, who has cerebral palsy, set a new world record in the S7 400m freestyle final in the Paralympic Games.
