Thousands more Newcastle premises get 'ultrafast broadband'

More than 10,000 more premises in Newcastle could have "ultrafast broadband" by 2015.

Newcastle City Council has been awarded £6m from the Government and said it hoped being a "super-connected" city would boost businesses.

The council and private investors said it would match the figure bringing the total investment on broadband to £12m.

Areas to benefit include Central Station, East Pilgrim Street, Stephenson Quarter and Science Central.

A council spokesman said ultrafast broadband would be rolled out to an extra 6,500 homes and 3,900 business premises in the city.
