Car 'driven at' Northumbria Police officer in Gateshead

A 31-year-old man has been charged after a car was allegedly driven at a police officer in Gateshead.

The Northumbria Police officer suffered "minor injuries" after he was hit by the wing mirror.

The officer was hurt in Greenside on Friday evening after he indicated to the driver of a car to get out of the vehicle.

Police say when he refused to leave the car, the officer walked towards the vehicle which was then "driven at him".

A man has been charged with attempted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.

He was given bail and will appear before Gateshead Magistrates' Court on 4 October.
