Third arrest after teenager raped near Newcastle hotel

A third man has been arrested after a teenage girl was raped near a Newcastle hotel.

The incident happened at about 05:00 BST on Sunday in the rear lane of the old Assembly Rooms, next to the entrance of the Newgate Hotel car park.

Two men were earlier held on suspicion of rape. One, 24, was released with no further charge and a 25-year-old was bailed pending further inquiries.

A third man, also 24, has now been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The 17-year-old victim was found in Fenkle Street by passers-by who contacted police.
