A man has been stabbed to death in a street in Sunderland.

Andrew Lucas, 20, of Warkworth Close, Washington was found on the street by police at just after 03.40 GMT.

He was taken to hospital but died shortly after arriving. Northumbria Police have launched a murder investigation.

A police spokesperson asked for anyone with information to come forward, but said there is "nothing to suggest any wider danger to the public".
