Newcastle aggravated burglaries suspect charged
A 30-year-old man has been charged with two burglaries during which householders were hit over the head.
The first break-in happened in Station Road, Kenton Bank Foot, in Newcastle, on Saturday night.
A second break-in happened hours later, in near-by Thornbury Close, when a 48-year-old man was attacked.
A man has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and is due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court.
Four men and a woman arrested in connection with the burglary inquiry have been bailed pending further inquiries.
Northumbria Police said both victims needed treatment at the Royal Victoria Infirmary for head injuries.
