A £50,000 donation in memory of a Sunderland RNLI fundraiser, will be used to pay for new crew equipment and training.

The money was donated in memory of Eileen Walker, who spent a lot time fundraising for the charity.

It will be used to pay for crew equipment, training, lifeboat maintenance and general station running costs in 2013.

Senior helmsman Paul Nicholson, said he was "proud" to receive the donation.

Mr Nicholson said: "We are extremely pleased and proud to receive this fantastic donation in memory of Eileen Walker who did a lot of fantastic work for the RNLI during her life.

"Donations like this are vital to allowing the RNLI to provide us with the best equipment and training."
