Firearms stolen in Sunderland found in blazing bin

Three firearms believed to have been stolen from a car in Sunderland have been recovered after officers were called to a wheelie bin fire.

The shotgun and two rifles were taken from a vehicle parked in Old Mill Road on 29 December.

Northumbria Police said the weapons were found in a wheelie bin which was set alight late on Monday in nearby Julius Caesar Street.

Following the find two men, aged 26 and 36, were arrested.
