Police investigating the murder of a Tyneside football badge seller have arrested and bailed a 27-year-old man.

John Roberts, 32, was found with head injuries at his home in Winlaton, Gateshead, on 16 December.

A few days before his death he had appeared in court on child abduction charges relating to a 14-year-old girl.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the 27-year-old was arrested early on Wednesday on suspicion of murder. He has since been bailed.
