Pensioner dies in Northumberland house fire

A pensioner has died after a house fire in Northumberland.

The fire happened at Garth Cottages in Hexham at about 20:50 GMT on Wednesday, police said.

Northumbria Police and the Northumberland Fire and Rescue service attended the scene and then extinguished the fire.

A woman in her 90s was taken to hospital where she later died. Police said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
