Alan Carroll charged after lorry crash death

A man has been charged with causing death by careless driving after a pensioner, knocked down by a lorry, died in hospital.

Richard Jones, 72, suffered head injuries during the incident at The Fossway in Walker on 13 July.

Mr Jones, of Wall Terrace in Walker, was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, but later died.

Alan Carroll, 50, of Wallsend, will appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on 4 March.
