Woman in Jarrow fire suffers 'life-threatening' burns

A woman is in hospital with "life-threatening burns" after a fire at a house in South Tyneside.

Northumbria Police attended an address in Westfield, Jarrow, at about 02:00 GMT following an emergency call from the occupant.

Emergency services rescued a 48-year-old woman from the property.

Police said the fire was not being treated as suspicious and no people were being sought in connection with it.
