Two men are being questioned by detectives after they were arrested in connection with an armed raid at a Tyneside casino.

The men, aged 44 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. They were later bailed.

A security guard was threatened with a shotgun before a large amount of cash was stolen outside the Grosvenor Casino in Newcastle on Thursday.

Police said a stolen white Audi 4x4 was found on fire after the raid.

The two men were arrested at addresses in Newcastle and Sunderland.

Northumbria Police believe a grey BMW 320 with the false registration NE08 VWG was also used by those responsible.

Ch Supt Neil Adamson said the force needed more witnesses to come forward.
