Three people have been arrested and bailed in connection with the murder of a Tyneside football badge seller.

John Roberts, 32, was found dead in his home in Park Terrace, Winlaton, Gateshead, on 16 December having suffered head injuries.

At the time he was facing a charge of abducting a 14-year-old girl.

Northumbria Police said two 40-year-old men from the Gateshead area and a third man, 43, from Newcastle, had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Three men aged 27, 21 and 17, and a 16-year-old girl who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail.

A 15-year-old girl who was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice also remains on bail.
