Tainted ecstasy bought in Newcastle leaves man critical

A 27-year-old man is in a critical condition after taking suspected contaminated drugs, police have said.

He suffered "extreme adverse effects" from four tablets, thought to be ecstasy, and was taken to hospital from a house in Newcastle's Blakelaw area.

Another man, 27, was also treated on Sunday and released after suffering a reaction to the same pills.

Northumbria Police believe the men bought the drugs in a pub in the west end of the city.
