Barrow market to get £250,000 revamp for 12 extra stalls

A council is to invest £250,000 expanding its indoor market after a surge in demand for stalls.

Barrow market will get 12 new stalls during the refurbishment, which will also include a new ceiling, toilet and lighting.

Barrow Borough Council said shoppers wanted more choice during a recession and it had a waiting list of traders wanting to set up business.

The market will remain open during the refurbishment this month.

Council leader Dave Pidduck said the authority was committed to "supporting small businesses and at the same time encouraging new entrepreneurs".
