A man has denied the murder of a Northumberland woman whose body has never been found.

Janet Brown has not been seen since 2005. The then 45-year-old was last known to be living in the Hexham area.

Donald Graham, 59, of Elsdon Avenue, Seaton Delaval, pleaded not guilty to murder, and also denied two counts of obtaining a money transfer by deception and 13 counts of fraud.

He was remanded in custody by a judge at Newcastle Crown Court.

Mr Graham appeared in court alongside Elizabeth Todd, 51, also of Elsdon Avenue, Seaton Delaval.

She denied charges of forgery, conspiracy to commit fraud and perverting the course of justice, and was granted conditional bail.

Both have been told they will go on trial in May.
