David Tapsfield: Tyneside skier dies in French Alps
A British man has died after plunging 2,000ft (600m) while skiing in the French Alps.
David Tapsfield, believed to be from North Tyneside, was skiing with a friend on Mont Buet in the Chamonix area of France at about 10,000ft (3,000m).
"He passed through a ledge of snow and fell 600m on the north face," mountain rescue staff said.
His friend, Lorne Cameron, originally from Glasgow, survived unharmed.
