Operation Sanctuary arrests reach 75

The number of people arrested as part of an investigation into allegations of sexual crime against vulnerable women and girls on Tyneside has risen to 75.

Northumbria Police set up Operation Sanctuary in January and have identified about 80 women and girls who are potential victims.

The total number of people arrested is now 72 men and three women.

Of these, 11 men are going through the court system charged with various sexual offences, including rape.
