Man charged over Newcastle's Holy Cross Church burglary

A man has been charged in connection with a burglary in which about £7,000 of silverware was stolen from a church in Newcastle.

Holy Cross Church in Whittington Grove in Fenham, was broken into on 28 May after a window was smashed.

Northumbria Police said the silver jugs, chalices and plates which were stolen have not been recovered.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with burglary and will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' on July 3.
