Crash death biker named as Michael Lewthwaite

A motorcyclist who died in hospital after a crash on North Tyneside has been named.

Michael Lewthwaite, 49, from South Shields, died after his bike crashed with a Royal Mail van on the A187 in East Howden on 12 June.

He was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary in a critical condition, but died a day later.

The van driver, in his 50s, suffered minor injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
