A body has been found in the search for a teenager who went missing in the River Wear in County Durham.

Police believe it is that of 17-year-old Jordan Roberts from Sunderland, who got into difficulty after entering the river with two friends on Monday.

Emergency crews were called at about 17:00 BST after they got into trouble near Finchale Abbey.

One of them pulled another out and gave him life-saving CPR. A search was launched for Jordan.

Emergency services searched the area into the night and resumed on Tuesday, using a helicopter, police dogs and an underwater diving team.

The area surrounding the scene, including a number of roads, has been cordoned off by police.

No formal identification has yet taken place and efforts to recover the body are under way, police said.

Supt Andy Huddleston from Durham Constabulary said: "Jordan's family have been informed of this latest development. We are continuing to support the family at this difficult time."
