Two men have been arrested as part of a murder inquiry into the stabbing of a man on North Tyneside.

The 43-year-old victim died in hospital early on Saturday, hours after he was found with a single stab wound in Aldwych Drive, North Shields.

Officers had earlier received reports of a man being threatened with a knife.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm (GBH) and a 21-year-old on suspicion of GBH.

A Northumbria force spokesman said it was believed the men were known to each other.
