Adam McLoughlin admits causing fatal Ebchester Bank crash death
A man has admitted causing a fatal crash while being pursued by police.
Adam McLoughlin was at the wheel of a VW Bora Sport, in Consett, on 24 June which failed to stop for officers, Durham Crown Court heard.
Passenger Adam Wilkinson, 49, died after the car hit a lamppost at Ebchester Bank.
McLoughlin, 32, of Blackhill, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol. He will be sentenced on 31 October.
Officers had been responding to reports of two men behaving suspiciously at the Tesco supermarket in Consett.
They followed the vehicle that McLoughlin and Mr Wilkinson were travelling in after it failed to stop when signalled.
Businessman Mr Wilkinson, a father-of-two, was described by his family as "a big personality, known and loved locally".
McLoughlin suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Durham Constabulary referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
