Sunderland Council issues 200 dog control notices to stop fouling

Dogs are being banned from areas of Sunderland in a bid to clamp down on fouling.

The city council has introduced 184 dog control orders barring animals from some parks and designating areas where they cannot be let off leads.

If owners flout the ban they now face fines of up to £1,000.

Councillor Michael Mordey, the council's portfolio holder for city services, said tackling dog mess was high on people's agenda.
