A County Durham man who caused a fatal crash while being pursued by police has been jailed.

Adam Wilkinson, 49, from Consett, was a passenger in the car when it hit a lamppost after the driver failed to stop for officers in June.

Adam McLoughlin had admitted causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol at an earlier hearing at Durham Crown Court.

The 32-year-old, from Blackhill, was jailed for eight years.

Mr Wilkinson suffered severe injuries and died soon after the incident at Ebchester Bank in Consett.

His family described him as "a big personality, known and loved locally".
