A supermarket chain is to take over sponsorship of the Great North Run.

Morrisons stepped in after private health firm Bupa announced in November that it was pulling out after supporting the event for 22 years.

The annual half marathon, thought to be the second largest in the world, takes place between Newcastle and South Shields.

The Great Run series, which is holding a race in Edinburgh on Saturday, made the announcement on twitter.
