Gateshead £8m drugs haul leads to 10 charges

Ten people have been charged after drugs with a street value of £8m were seized by police in Gateshead.

The raids were carried out in October and the people were charged this week, police said.

The action was part of a regional operation targeting organised crime groups, led by the North East Regional Special Operations Unit.

The drugs included class A cocaine and heroin and class B amphetamine. Officers also seized £110,000 in cash.

Five men and one woman from Gateshead, and three men from Liverpool, were charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs and money laundering offences.

A 41-year-old man from Gateshead has been charged with possession of a class B drug, amphetamine, with intent to supply.

All 10 are scheduled to appear at Gateshead Magistrates' Court on 26 February.
