Burnside Primary School fire in Stanley treated as arson

A fire at a primary school in County Durham is being treated as arson, police have said.

Officers believe a small fire was started deliberately outside Burnside Primary School in Stanley between 19:30 and 20:10 GMT on Tuesday.

The fire spread to a room in the building and caused smoke damage to a classroom.

The school is expected to be closed for the rest of the week for repairs, police said.

The culprit is not thought to have intended to cause damage to the main building, Durham Police said.
