Two dead in Hartford Bridge car crash

Two people have died and a third is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Northumberland.

A blue Nissan Micra and a silver Vauxhall Astra were in collision near to Hartford Bridge at 12:05 BST.

Northumbria Police said a man from the Micra and a woman from the Astra were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another woman from the Astra was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where she is being treated for serious injuries.

The A192 between Hartford Village and A1068 Plessey Checks roundabout was closed for more than two hours to allow for investigations and vehicle recovery.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
