'Good Samaritan' sought after South Shields rape

Police investigating a rape on South Tyneside have appealed for a "Good Samaritan" to come forward.

A 21-year-old woman was attacked at an address in South Shields on Sunday night and was later spotted on Sea Winnings Way in a distressed state.

While sitting on a wall near Tesco, a passing man inquired as to her wellbeing, and police want to trace him as a witness.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and later bailed.
