Ryan Charlton named as A1 Angel of the North crash death man

A man who died after the car he was travelling in overturned near the Angel of the North has been named.

Ryan Mark Charlton, 23, from the Low Fell area of Gateshead, was pronounced dead in hospital after the crash on the A1 in the early hours of 19 April.

His family said he was a "funny, happy boy" and their "life will never be the same again".

A 31-year-old man arrested in connection with the collision has been released on police bail.

In a statement, Mr Charlton's family said: "Ryan was always making people laugh with his silly faces and voices.

"He was loved and treasured so much by his family and friends.

"We have had our world turned upside down and our hearts ripped out, life will never be the same again for us."

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
