Murder arrest after man attacked in Gateshead

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man who was found semi-conscious by a roadside in Gateshead.

The 41-year-old man was found by Sunderland Road at about 15:00 BST on 2 May.

He was taken to hospital with a head injury in a critical condition and died on Sunday.

Northumbria Police said a 22-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent remains on bail.
