A man has died after a car crashed into a lorry on the A19 in County Durham.

Jeremy Hunt was driving a Ford Ranger which is thought to have veered across the carriageway of the A19 and collided with the central reservation before hitting the rear of the lorry.

The 49-year-old from Acklam Road, Thornaby, Teesside, was taken to hospital but later died.

The incident happened at 12:50 BST on Wednesday on the northbound carriageway before the slip road to the A1018.

The northbound side of the road was closed for nearly five hours while Durham Police investigated.
