Balaclava-clad rapist sought by police in Lemington

A man who raped a teenage girl is being sought by police in Newcastle.

The 16-year-old was walking along a disused railway track in the Lemington area at 10:45 BST on Friday when she was grabbed and attacked.

After the assailant - who was dressed all in black and wearing a balaclava - left, she telephoned for help and was taken to hospital.

Northumbria Police described it as an incredibly distressing incident and said officers were searching the area.

A spokesman said: "This area is a popular location for dog walkers and it is believed there was a man with two dogs seen in the area just prior to the attack and police are keen to speak with him.

"Officers are carrying out searches of the area and are making house to house enquiries."
