Mark Douglas jailed for raping woman on Tyneside

A man has been jailed for the rape and assault of a woman in North Tyneside.

The 27-year-old victim, who had been out with friends, left Whitley Bay's South Parade area after 02:00 GMT on 8 March and went to an address in Willington Quay where she was attacked.

Mark Douglas, 39, of Bewick Road, North Shields, admitted rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

At Newcastle Crown Court he was given six years for rape and a three-year sentence to run concurrently for ABH.

He was also made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
