Teenage boy critical but stable after being assaulted in Gateshead quarry

A teenage boy is critically ill in hospital after being seriously assaulted in a Gateshead quarry, police said.

Officers were called to the quarry at Clara Vale, Gateshead, just after 22:00 BST on Friday to reports of an attack on a 15-year-old.

He was taken to hospital where he is critical but stable, police confirmed.

Two boys, aged 16 and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
