Charges after woman attacked and racially harassed in Sunderland

A man has been charged with racial harassment and assault after a woman was injured in Sunderland, police said.

Witnesses reported the incident in the city's Bridges shopping centre on Sunday.

Northumbria Police said the alleged victim was not seriously injured but had been left "very shaken."

A 55-year-old man has been charged with racially aggravated and common assault and will appear at Sunderland Magistrates' Court on 19 July.
