A man who died after a disturbance at a nightclub has been described as a "devoted" and "hard-working" granddad.

Stewart Anderson became unwell outside Loveshack in Durham city centre early on Sunday.

The 54-year-old from Hetton-le-Hole was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital but later died.

Seven men were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and another for a public order offence. All were later bailed pending further inquiries.

Mr Anderson's daughters, Kay Allcroft and Kelly Beston, said in a statement: "Dad was a very hard-working man who, when not at work, was utterly devoted to his beloved granddaughter Neve.

"He will be hugely missed not only by his family but also his circle of friends."
