Firefighters are still trying to put out a tyre fire at a factory near a theme park in County Durham.

The blaze broke out among tonnes of tyres at Langley Park Industrial Estate near Diggerland on Friday, closing a nearby road because of plumes of smoke 60ft high.

Durham and Darlington Fire Service is warning people to stay away from the area although the theme park is open.

A 54-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson has been bailed.

A spokesman for the fire service said firefighters would be at the site most of the day tackling between 50 and 100 tonnes of burning tyres.

Managers at Diggerland said some visitors were stranded at the park for a short time because of road closures on Friday.

One man was treated for the effects of smoke.
