A 13-year-old boy has suffered serious head and leg injuries after falling from a cliff.

The teenager fell about 20ft (6m) at Cullercoats Bay, North Tyneside, at about 17:20 BST, emergency services said.

He was given a blood transfusion by medics from the Great North East Air Ambulance and put into an induced coma.

He was flown to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary where his condition on arrival was "serious but stable".
