Whitley Bay death: Man charged with murder

A 25-year-old has been charged with murdering a man found dead in his home.

The body of Matthew Davis, 39, was discovered at his house on North Parade in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, on Friday evening.

Tony Dodds, of Hillheads Road in the town has been remanded in custody and will appear before Newcastle Crown Court on 20 April.

Mr Davis' family said he was "a lovely lad with a heart of gold" who was "no bother to anyone".

Two other men, arrested on suspicion of murder, have been bailed pending further inquiries, along with a woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A further two men were released with no further action.
