People in a commercial street in Durham city known locally as "the dark side", are to be given the chance to find out about plans to boost the area.

A public consultation on the future of North Road highlighted traffic issues and a lack of distinctive shops.

More than 80% of people who responded also said it was not an attractive environment for shoppers.

Their feedback will be on view at a public exhibition in January, along with a further chance to comment.

It will take place at the community shop in the bus station on 13, 14 and 15 January.

Councillor Neil Foster, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "North Road is known locally as 'the dark side' of Durham and as one of the main commercial streets in the city and is clearly crying out for attention.

"The consultation earlier in the year was very useful and we now want to share those views before making actual proposals to regenerate the area."
