Woman arrested after Chester-le-Street pedestrian death

A woman has been arrested after her car struck a pedestrian who later died.

Steven Rutter suffered serious head injuries when he was hit by a Renault Scenic in Ropery Lane, Chester-le-Street, on Monday morning.

The 35-year-old of Stanley Terrace in the town died on Tuesday in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The 26-year-old driver of the car was arrested in connection with the crash and bailed until April. Durham Police are appealing for witnesses.
