Parked car towed away by thieves in County Durham

Police in County Durham are appealing for information after thieves used a "distinctive" van to steal a car which then struck another vehicle.

The Vauxhall Corsa was taken while it was parked outside Thornley County Primary School on Tuesday.

A small white or silver van with two yellow stripes on the back was used to tow it away.

While the van was being driven away, the stolen car hit and damaged a Citroen Xsara parked nearby.

A Durham Police spokesman said: "The van used to tow the car away is quite distinctive in appearance and left the area at speed.

"We would like to hear from anyone who spotted it either before the time of the theft or afterwards as it was towing the Corsa."
