Falling fridge hits car on Spennymoor bypass

A driver escaped injury after a fridge fell from a lorry and hit his 4x4 vehicle on a County Durham bypass.

Police said the fridge fell into the path of the silver Suzuki Grand Vitara from the lorry on the A688 in Spennymoor, on 8 April.

The 36-year-old 4X4 driver was uninjured but the front end of his vehicle was badly damaged.

The lorry driver did not stop and police are trying to trace him. They are appealing for witnesses.

Pc Gary Davison, of Durham Police, said the refrigerator was not securely fastened when it fell, leaving a large amount of debris on the carriageway.
